Our story so far…
The mind behind the Beacon Project belongs to Alexander Butler - an author, philosopher and internationally-acclaimed Master Life Coach. Today he works at the cutting edge of personal development, leadership and culture change.
Alexander has been driven by a lifelong, obsessive exploration into the human condition and the unique needs of this time in history.
EMBERCOMBE AND OTHER INSPIRATIONS
For five years, Alexander lived and worked at Embercombe which was, at the time, a challenging and disruptive centre for leadership and personal development. Nestled in a beautiful valley in Devon, England, Embercombe inspired thousands of people through corporate leadership programmes, school visits and courses for adults. Embercombe's staff was a collection of passionate, highly talented experts who modelled a form of truly authentic and bold leadership in all aspects of their lives, while working closely with nature.
Threads of Embercombe's wisdom and vision can be found in the Beacon Project. We'll preserve and recreate much of its value system, pratices and magic, while learning from the mistakes of the past.
Before Embercombe, Alexander ran his own community-focused venture called Star Mountain, a complimentary therapy centre and café in central Plymouth. Alexander launched Star Mountain in his mid 20's and worked alongside a wide range of healers, volunteers and staff to create a thriving community.

BIRTH OF THE BEACON PROJECT
We are the healers and educators that have met Alexander across his studies and work, and aligned with his passion for creating a place that will meet this needs of this time in human history.
We are therapists, academics, educators, researchers and course-leaders.
No matter our background, we have been working in our fields for long enough to see that behind each person's illness, pain or dysregulation are common cultural stories that have not only hurt individuals, but brought the entire natural world to the edge of catastrophe. Our different paradigms are united by our commitment to challenge this culture, and embody something better. Together we have the knowledge, training and experience to create and sustain this model, and to pass it on to our visitors.
Following his departure from Embercombe, Alexander wrote to several of us and proposed an education centre that would offer a potent, transformative experience for its visitors. Over the years this has expanded to include a more therapeutic aspect, as it became clear that people's psychological wounding and trauma lock them in to unhealthy and unsustainable beliefs and habits.
The final version of the Beacon Project grew from our conversations as we each learned more about healing, systems thinking, culture change, and ways of embodying a new, life-centric culture.
People are already doing this work all over the world, but there are few centres that have the scale and resources to promote a pragmatic and inspiring example of healthy ways to live. But as human systems crumble and environmental crises loom, we are eager to create a place that will meet people's needs. We want to create a place of beauty, peace, growth, learning and change.
Above all, we want to make a beacon of hope in a darkening world.
